WEEK OF MARCH 26, 2023

Third Scrutiny. Deliverance from cosmic, universal evil

As Lazarus was raised from the dead, we hope that this journey of Lent will free us from sin and evil and bring us new life

God is power God is might. God will triumph over sin

  • When the dignity of humanity is threated. When people are victimized by discrimination. When indifference answers the cry of the poor
  • Wherever people are threatened by war. Wherever prisoners are tortured and humiliated. Wherever people are not free to practice their faith. Where the spirit of the powerless is stifled and crushed
  • From the ungrateful depletion of our atmosphere. From our failure to save energy and resources. From our exploitation of the natural wonders of creation

Deliver Us, O Lord

May peace and harmony reign in our world. May love and dignity prevail in our time. May all creation live in unity and harmony. Free us from any falsehood and evil and create in all of us a clean heart, a renewed vision a deepened sense of your indwelling holiness

WEEK OF MARCH 19, 2023

Second Scrutiny. Deliverance from institutional evil

This week of Lent calls us to reflect upon our true identity as followers of Christ. Like the man born blind, we pray that obstacles to our vision and direction be removed

God is power God is might. God will triumph over sin

  • When we are blind to the needs of others … When we disregard the rights of our children … When we degrade others because of class, creed, race or lifestyle … When we ignore the wisdom and dignity of the elderly
  • Whenever we silence our prophets and our visionaries … Whenever there is violence in our homes, schools and cities … Whenever we betray our principles and our faith … Whenever we are unfair in church, or in the workplace
  • When we mismanage or deceive others to seek our own gain … When we abuse time and corrupt our political systems …When we take advantage of those who are institutionalized … Whenever we exult evil in any way … Whenever we deny the holiness of other people

Deliver Us O Lord

May the power of your word change our lives and invigorate our spirit. Free us from any falsehood and evil. Give us a clean heart, renewed vision, a deepened sense of your indwelling holiness

WEEK OF MARCH 12, 2023

First Scrutiny. Deliverance from personal evil

We reflect on our intimacy with Jesus and upon those things that keep us from enjoying a fuller life

God is power God is might; God will triumph over sin

  • When fear or hatred imprisons us. When greed and selfishness divide us. When we choose to ignore those who are in need. When we destroy reputations by malicious words
  • When we manipulate others to maintain control. When the attraction to wealth or power overtakes us. When we hold on to revenge and hesitate to forgive. When we feel alone and forgotten
  • When we are weak in confronting our addictions. When jealousy, envy or arrogance enslave us. When we harden our hearts and close our minds. When we turn away from you and all that is life-giving

Deliver Us O Lord

May the power of your word change our lives and invigorate our spirit. Free us from any falsehood and evil. Give us a clean heart, renewed vision, a deepened sense of your indwelling holiness
