I have a Dell Optiplex 760 purchased in June 2009. Processor is an Intel Core 2 Duo E8500 running at 3.16 Ghz. I am currently running XP Professional, but want to upgrade to Windows 7 Professional (or Ultimate) 64 Bit. Will this PC run the 64 bit version of Windows 7 ? My main aim is increase the amount of RAM that I can effectively use. Appreciate any advice given. Sep 3, 2008 8,216

Yeah that CPU should have no trouble running 64-bit Windows. The Intel graphics are of course a little iffy but it should be ok for windows areo, just don't game with it . Jan 17, 2012 3 0 18,510

Once again my thanks to megamanx00 for the help. He obviously knows his CPU's, this message is being sent on my old PC which is now successly running Windows 7 Pro 64 bit version. Everything seems to be happening a lot quicker than when the PC was running XP Pro 32 bit. Should have bitten the bullet and upgraded earlier. Sep 3, 2008 8,216
