  • Call of Duty Modern Warfare Xbox One And PS4 Fans Can Now Reduce Their Game's File Size

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare fans on Xbox and PS4 no longer need to take up as much storage with this useful guide on reducing the game's file size.

File size has been a topic since the launch of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The massive game justified its size with realistic graphics, a heavy single-player campaign, and the addition of more content since its release. All of these factors add together to help create the massive estimated 200GB file size across all platforms.

This fact has the Modern Warfare community searching for ways to reduce the size of the game and keep only the content they want. Although fans can not do much about the growing monster of a file, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 fans can now uninstall sections of the game that they do not want to play.

To begin reducing the file size, players must first launch Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. When in the game, they then must go to the main menu and select Options. From there, navigate the General tab and scroll to the bottom and select Game Installs. This is where fans select any content that they want to get rid of or keep.

Do note that Data Pack 1 is required for all Multiplayer and Spec Ops play. All of the Multiplayer Packs are required for Multiplayer access. Fans that rarely play Special Ops will be happy to know that the Special Ops Pack and Special Ops Pack 2 can both be safely uninstalled without interfering with the Multiplayer mode. This also works in reverse for fans who enjoy playing the Special Ops but avoid Multiplayer lobbies in general.

Selecting which content should remain installed and what should be uninstalled is up to the personal preference of the player. At least now multiplayer fans can uninstall the campaign and save a little space in the process. This comes in handy for players on Xbox One or Playstation 4 that have the launch console 500 GB hard drives and need to save some space, especially with Season 4's recent launch and future content.

Fans are sure to enjoy this opportunity to free up space for other games. Although Modern Warfare is massively successful, many fans are still looking forward to the launch of Call of Duty 2020 later in the year. Hopefully, this year's launch won't take up nearly as much hard drive space as Modern Warfare has.

  • How To Cut Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare's File Size

We've all seen the memes by now about Call of Duty: Modern Warfare's massive file size, but is there any way to fix it? Yes, yes there is.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and its free sibling battle royale title Call of Duty: Warzone have been smash hits over the past year, although there's been one major complaint: file size. Considering many current generation consoles came equipped with 500GB hard drives, the 200GB required to install Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is not insignificant.

Fortunately, the team at Infinity Ward has been hard at work on helping to alleviate large file size woes. While a recent attempt to reduce filesize initially left some Xbox users with a more than doubled patch update size, this issue has since been resolved, and additional (hopefully more successful) methods to reduce file size have been announced. Here's one you can do now.

First, players need to launch into Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. From here, go to the main menu, and select options. On the general tab, if players go to the bottom, there is a section called Game Installs. From here, players can select the files they would like to keep or remove, although be warned, some files once removed may impact playability. Below, we highlight those steps for ease of use.

How To Reduce Call of Duty: Modern Warfare File Size:

  • Load Game
  • Main Menu
  • Options
  • General
  • Game Installs
  • Remove Unwanted Files
  • DO NOT REMOVE DATA PACK 1

Which files can you remove, then? Depends on what you like to play, but we’ll break it down for you. Do not remove Data Pack 1, as it is required for all Spec Ops and Multiplayer play. Don’t know what Special Ops even is? Feel free to delete Special Ops Pack, and Special Ops Pack 2. Do you avoid regular multiplayer lobbies like the plague, but enjoy jumping into Special Ops? Do the reverse, and delete the multiplayer packs. If you remove Data Pack 1, neither will work properly.

From here, it is up to players on what to keep or remove piece by piece. If you’ve beaten the campaign, or have no interest in playing it, get rid of it. Multiplayer and Spec Ops can be removed without impacting one another, but both require Data Pack 1. You have been warned! Enjoy the freed up space, to make room for the next update.

Why is Call of Duty so big GB?

In general, the most accepted idea is the fact that Modern Warfare has too many assets. Some players suggest that holding the cosmetics from the store along with un-compressed textures for maps are what cause these issues, while others believe that Infinity Ward simply didn't do enough to compress the game down.

Which Call of Duty takes less space?

Call of Duty: Vanguard will have a significantly smaller file size on current-gen consoles and PC.
