HP laptop won t turn on red light

If your Surface wont turn on or won't wake up, you can try a few things to get it working again.

  • Disconnect accessories and make sure your Surface is charged

  • Wake with keyboard [Ctrl+Shift+Win+B] shortcuts

  • Force a restart, by pressing the power button for 20 seconds

Disconnect accessories and make sure your Surface is charged

Things that youve connected to your Surface might be preventing it from turning on. Heres how to check if that's the problem:

  1. Disconnect any USB drives, SD cards, USB accessories, external monitors, docks, or anything else youve connected to your Surface. Then try turning it onif that works, the accessory may be the problem.

  2. If that didn't work, connectthe power supply that came with your Surface.

  3. When your Surface is plugged in with the original power cord, charge it for 15 minutes. Then press the power button to turn on your Surface.If the power connector light doesnt turn on, or if it flashes, seeSurface battery wont charge or Surface won't run on battery.

Wake with keyboard and tablet shortcuts

If recharging your Surface didnt wake it up, heres a couple things to try.

  • Connect to a keyboard or use an integrated keyboard. Then press theWindows logo key +Ctrl+Shift+B.

  • If you're in tablet mode, quickly press the volume-up and volume-down buttons three times.

Force a restart

If charging your Surface and the keyboard or tablet shortcuts didnt work, you can try to force a shutdown, and then restart. On most devicesyou can do this by pressing and holding the power button until the logo screen appears [about20 seconds].

If your Surface still wont turn on

If these steps don't resolve the problem, you can submit a service order to Microsoft to access available repair or replacement options. Go to Device Service and Repair, register, and then select your Surface to start a service order.
