Laptop screen broken hdmi not working

You may need to change the video mode of the laptop, to a mode that the TV can pick up. I understand your screen is broken, but a physical problem is hard to overcome! If you can get to the control panel, and set the screen mode to a different setting and try it again. Keep trying different modes until it displays. BTW, what OS?

Did you make any software or hardware changes on your PC?

Try few steps recommended below to know how to connect a TV from laptop using HDMI connection.

Turn your laptop and TV on. Connect your HDMI lead to both your TV and laptop [any order]. Select the correct HDMI input on your TV [usually by pressing the AV button].

If your laptop does not automatically output its screen to the TV, go to Control Panel > Display > Adjust Resolution and select the TV in the Display drop down box.

1.Right-click the Volume icon [white speaker] on the taskbar.  Sound Button.gif 2.Click Playback Devices….this opens the Sound window. 3.On the Playback tab, click Digital Output Device [HDMI] if it is present. If it is not present, click Realtek HDMI Output. 4.Click Set Default. 5.Click Apply. 6.Do one of the following: If you used Digital Output Device [HDMI], click OK to close the window. This completes the steps to activate HDMI sound for this option. If you used Realtek HDMI Output, continue with step 7. 7.Double-click Realtek HDMI Output. 8.The Properties window opens. 9.Click the Supported Formats tab. Place a check in the 48.0 KHz check box, and ensure that there is no check in the Dolby Digital check box and all other check boxes. For most displays to play back audio, the sample rate must be 48.0 KHz.

10.Click OK to apply the changes and close the window.

I recently dropped my Windows 10 x64 laptop and it caused the screen to go all coloured with lines, and I pretty much can't see any relevant information on the screen anymore. I was able to connect to a TV via HDMi fine but I foolish thought it was a good idea to update my Nvidia graphics driver. After doing so, the TV will recognize that there is something connected via HDMi but it will not show any signal. I'm thinking the graphics driver update messed things up, maybe the refresh rate from my research I'm not overly sure.

I've probably tried every combination of connecting the HDMi cable to the laptop, tv, starting from powered off or starting from powered on. In addition, I've tried all of the Windows + P [duplicate, extend, 2nd screen only] display options to no success either.

I'm just looking for advice as what to do, seeing as I can't see my screen I can't really rollback the graphics driver. Is there any way I can get the display on my smartphone or something? I've been at this for hours trying to figure it out so any insight is appreciated.

I cannot take it to the repair shop yet, I'm just asking if there's anything else I might be able to do in the mean time.

A broken laptop screen can be a nightmare unless you’ve got an external monitor that you can connect to keep going on with your work and entertainment. Now, while most of the newer laptop models detect an external display automatically when you connect it via the HDMI or VGA cable, if you’re running an older machine, chances are that the external monitor wasn’t detected.

While it’s pretty easy to detect an external monitor manually via Windows settings, you’ll need your laptop’s screen to work for that; which isn’t in this case. Don’t you worry, as we’ve got an easy and quick fix to your issue here.

Now, this might be stating the obvious for most of you, but for the uninitiated, this method will only work if everything else [mostly] on your laptop is working fine, sans the screen.

Firstly, go ahead and connect the external monitor to your laptop using either a VGA, HDMI or DVI cable — whichever port is supported by your laptop and monitor.

As mentioned above, generally newer models running Windows 10 detect the external monitor as soon as your plug it in, but if that’s not happening, you’ll need to make use of your keyboard to get things going for you.

Depending on the make and model of your laptop, you’ll need to press the FN [Function] key alongwith one of these: F2, F3, F4, F5, F7, F8, F9 or F10.

To give you an example, you can press FN+F4 on HP laptops to detect and switch to an external monitor even when your laptop’s screen is broken. In the same manner, you can use FN+F2 on MSI, FN+F8 on Asus and Dell, and FN+F5 on Acer machines.

In most of the cases, you’ll find a screen or a laptop icon on the function key from F2 through F10, which is dedicated to toggling external display on your laptop.

You can choose to extend the display, duplicate them or simply make the external monitor your primary display until you get your laptop’s screen fixed.

While one of the function keys mentioned above should work in most of the cases, if it doesn’t, you should consider checking the laptop manufacturer’s website for a user manual or support related to the keyboard layout of your laptop.

If you’ve followed the guide mentioned above correctly but still aren’t able to project your laptop’s broken screen to an external monitor, chances are that either your HDMI/VGA cable is faulty or the HDMI/VGA port on your laptop has malfunctioned.

You can try reseating the cable in the port until it’s flush in the port’s case; sometimes a loose connection makes all the fuss.

You can also check for damage to the connector pins on your VGA or HDMI cable because if they’re bent, you might want to get a replacement.

If your laptop’s HDMI or VGA port have malfunctioned too, then your last resort to get your laptop repaired immediately just became your go-to plan.
