When did Maya 2023 come out?

Seems like Autodesk is leaving Maya behind and focusing more on 3ds Max, even Max itself isn't perfect, still has terrible General & Viewport performance compared to Maya and like 90% of tools/modifiers likely wasn't updated since 90's.

It's also funny how Maya and Max got same Preprocess Mesh option in the Retopology tool but Maya's version is significantly inferior and Max in general got way more cool stuff added. It's like Autodesk is trying to say that Maya is for Animation/Rigging and 3ds Max is for everything else including Animation/Rigging.

Autodesk has unveiled the features and improvements of Maya 2023, the upcoming update of the company's professional 3D animation, modeling, simulation, and rendering toolset. The team comments that Maya 2023 will focus on improved usability for both experienced and new Maya users.

The update comes with a new Blue Pencil tool, a completely revamped Booleans tool, a new Search feature, new retopology tools, and more. Here's a list of some of the new features:

Updated USD plug-in for Maya: The new version of Maya comes with an updated USD (Universal Scene Description) plug-in, letting artists work seamlessly with USD in conjunction with Maya workflows.

Blue Pencil: The update will introduce Blue Pencil, a new tool that allows Artists and Animators to create 2D drawings and annotations in the viewport. Replacing the earlier Grease Pencil tools, Blue Pencil offers more features and flexibility, including more drawing tools for text and shapes, as well as functionality like layers, retiming, and transformation.

Improved Boolean Operations: Maya 2023 will also improve Boolean modeling workflow by introducing a new Boolean node. The node will allow users to create and edit boolean operations in fewer clicks.

The update also comes with Boolean stack, a centralized location to edit your booleans. Input objects are displayed as layers, making it easier to organize and manage your operations. You can use layers to change an input object's boolean operation and display mode or toggle its inclusion in the boolean calculation.

What's more, Boolean input objects will display as orange wireframes, differentiating them from other objects in the scene.

Improved User Experience: Maya 2023 will add a new Application Home hub, Interactive Tutorials, Search, a new feature that makes it easy to look for menus, tools, commands, and even scene objects simply by typing them into a text field, and more.

New Sweep Mesh option: A new option will let users choose whether to use a single creator node or multiple creator nodes per curve.

Arnold for Maya 5.1.0 plug-in: Maya 2023 also comes with MtoA 5.1.0 which includes new features, bug fixes, performance optimizations, and improvements.

Autodesk has released Maya 2023. Bifrost for Maya gets updated with Bifrost USD, a new system for creating and editing USD assets using the Bifrost graph. It is integrated with USD for Maya which makes it possible to select and edit USD elements directly in the Maya viewport and enables new scene layout workflows. There’s also a new color picker tool, better cloth tearing ability in the MPM solver, and updates to the Aero solver for gaseous fluid simulation.

Another new feature is the Blue Pencil toolset for making 2D annotations in the viewport. It replaces the existing Grease Pencil tool and provides more drawing tools for text and shapes as well as a layer system for annotations. The toolset is aimed at pre-production animation blocking.

Improvements to the modeling workflow includes new marking menus for extrusion and bevel operations. There’s also the option to use single or multiple creator nodes per curve in the Sweep Mesh tool which creates 3D geometry by sweeping a profile curve along a guide curve.

The Boolean modeling tools get updated with a Boolean node which makes it possible for users to create and edit booleans in fewer clicks. A range of new boolean operations are also available, such as Slice, Hole Punch, Cut Out and Split Edges in addition to the existing Difference and Union operations.

With Maya 2023 there’s a full switch to Python and Python 2 mode has been removed entirely. There’s also updates to deformers and improvements to animation performers.
