Recruiting evaluation from 247 Sports … A new-age cornerback prospect that has a chance to be a difference maker at football’s highest levels given his rare blend of size, length and speed. Started prep career off playing primarily wide receiver before being thrust into action on the defensive side of the ball. Excelled right away as a perimeter defender against top Sunshine State competition picking off nine passes as a sophomore and 10 more as a junior. Still very raw from a technical standpoint, but is athletic enough to carry and cover most vertical routes. Leggy transitions aren’t exactly ideal, but has a knack for putting himself in position to make a play at the catch point and can quickly close gaps with an elite burst. Has experience working in both man and off-coverage. Not one to shy away from contact and is a rather spirited as an open-field tackler, but must improve in the boxing ring if he’s going to settle in as a true bump-and-run corner on Saturdays. Tested off the charts as an underclassman posting a 4. 5 in the 40-yard dash to go along with a 128-inch broad jump and a 4. 3 in the short shuttle. Will need to eventually add mass to a slender frame and continue to refine footwork/technique once enrolled at the school of his choice, but has one of the highest ceilings in the entire class of 2023 given how he moves –and covers– for someone that’s pushing 6-foot-2. Must learn how to block out mistakes and find some inner confidence once adversity hits, but has the physical makeup of a potential impact player for a College Football Playoff contender and a possible early-round NFL Draft selection if he can keep progressing. Could experience some initial growing pains, but freakish traits are worth molding for the long haul

In his own words … All my life I played running back and linebacker until my sophomore year when they told me that they wanted to move me to edge. It was in a JV game. I found a position that suited me. It was a weight lifted off my shoulders because all I had to do was go get the quarterback. My coach, Rufus Alexander, tried me out at that position and it took off from there. That first game my junior year, I knew something special was about to happen.
I spent that whole summer working on more technique. My coach, Le Jones, we tweaked everything. He really broke down my game. He broke down everything I needed to work on. Hand placement, shooting my hands, working technique on pass rush, giving me an arsenal of moves in my toolbox.
I came out hard this year. Everybody got to see my dominate, seeing what I would do. I picked up where I left off last year. I worked out when no one was watching, putting in extra work.
When the offers really started coming in, I took it all in and tried to stay humble. Everyone gets a big ego when they get a lot of offers but none of my friends can say I changed.
I’m humbled and blessed to announce that I will be playing — and dominating — at the University of Colorado. I plan on dominating for the next three years.

Shows the ability to line up outside the backfield and run routes and catch the ball and can certainly be a pass-catching threat from the backfield as well. Can also be a return man — both kicks and punts and be a threat there. Any offense and special teams unit can use a dynamic player like him regardless of offensive scheme. If you have a stable of WR’s one could substitute a different squad on alternate plays and totally wear a defensive backfield out…. then in 4th Qtr’ the DB’s who can run 4. 3- 40’s will be reduced to 4. 8’s

The Sanders men are certainly listed to be locks for CU, while Hunter says he’ll take a little bit of time to explore all possibilities. It will be anxious times ahead for his portal decision. In my mind the purge is exactly what this program needed if there was going to be any chance for the Buffs to emerge from the college football basement in the next 10 years
I think you can count on one hand the players that will be missed who ran for or were showed the door and Prime will replace them and especially the others for the most part with superior talent. That doesnt mean they will all be five stars. I will be happy if there are enough from the portal to get us to a bowl for next year. Semedo seems to be the only portal difference maker from last year
Considering our previous and present situaton at QB, taking a chance on another sonny boy is something we have to swallow. At least he has been ragingly sucsessful at a college level. If he was another weak armed runt from a sticks highschool in Idaho I would be up in arms again too

Right now the tidal wave of commits and transfers predicted seems to going ok but a lot more slowly than predictedMarcusJBuff says.
With 200 plus inquiring about the Buffs in the first day and more after, plus the review of current players and commits it probably takes some time to widdle that list down to… 25 HS recruits and replacing “X” number of current players along with who to keep/staying to get to 85

That is certainly peculiar about the rating, or lack of, regarding latest commit Taje McCoy. Another discrepancy I note is that Rivals shows us with 15 recruits and 247 with 14. Rivals shows 3 star Juco DB Anthony Robinson who committed last week while 247 doesn’t list him. Robinson shows two other Power 5 offers from the Hoosiers and Jayhawks, and has an interview about CU’s offer posted on Rivals…

So in all of the interviews I see about the new commits I see them mention the family atmosphere and the brotherhood. This is clearly what CU is recruiting on. I think this message will resonate with a some kids and parents. If we can start to win, it will become even stronger. I think sometimes it may be harder to motivate kids looking for this type of environment. The kids that are looking for the lime light you basically say “work hard and you will get your shot in the spotlight. And work super hard and that spotlight could be huge. ” For kids looking for a “family” environment I think the motivation is a bit more nuanced. “You fight and train for the brother next to you. ” Or “you can’t let your family down” I assume there are other ways as well as just the intrinsic motivation these guys have to want to play and get to the next level. But football is a tough and what you need to do in order to be competitive is very hard and requires a significant amount of effort and the willingness and motivation to do that. I think it can work, and I think it can work in the right environment but I think you will need to give the staff the time to build that culture and figure out how to motivate kids with that mindset

Looks like a PWO commit. He had only seven tackles in five games as a freshman at Saddleback Community College. He’s 6’2″, 220-pounds, out of San Clemente – he didn’t have any offers out of high school last year

CU may be loading up on freshmen while the rest of the country is grabbing from the portal because
There are a lot of HS players available because of the “super seniors” and the portal that are not going to get a spot on other rosters, and coach is taking advantage of this hoping to build around what he has
Some of the better players in the portal are looking for NIL money and wouldn’t come to CU anyway
Coach knows that many of those mentioned above are just mercenaries looking for a home for a short period to get paid in one way or another, either thru NIL of a good showing and the NFL after and wouldn’t be a good fit in the locker room
Players that are developed together and work together have a common ground… a camaraderie if you will
We will see how this plays out, it could be good if they stick with it, buy in and love each other
or
CU could end up developing talent just for the next level payday school to come along and take

Coach Mac 1 probably started with quite a few 2 and 3 stars, [I wasn’t around] but he got in their heads and made them think they were just as good as 4 stars
Attitude is almost everything when you have the right personnel, incl’ coaches and athletes

Mac 1 did get onto the heads of some of the lower rated players AND the team as a whole, but he also brought in higher caliber players from the inner cities of CA; bringing in talent that many of CU’s prior coaches didn’t attempt to get. Mac 1 wasn’t afraid of the challenge and knew how to talk to them and their families and more importantly their mothers. Unfortunately one of Mac 1’s strong suit in knowing how to connect with those mothers became the reason he left CU prematurely
But the way NIL is going most schools, CU included will have to settle for the players that don’t demand a big payday, while the ones that can will buy the elite players. AND, anytime a school finds an under the radar really good player or a players works and gets on the national radar, they’re going to get offers to transfer and those schools will feed the higher ups…

The new lineman is big. 6-7, seems to carry his weight well. Gets his hand in, but has played mostly against much smaller dudes, it shows that he is not being run around. I didn’t see sny film of a wide set olb rushing and him getting there which I would like to see but I susp3ct Devan looked at that or thought he could train it, his feet look ok, his technique is bad but at his size in high school against the comp he is going aga8nst you didn’t really need it

Personally I think its a good idea for someone who wants to get recruited by multiple schools to commit early. That way they get there name out there as a commit, which garners attention and recruiters eyes. As the saying goes there is no publicity that is bad publicity. Not saying that is the case here, just a note
