Laptop rubber strip glue

Hi @philamignon ,

Try searching for L53559-001 to get suppliers.

A lot of suppliers don’t show what the strips look like so that the part number can be verified as the HP description for the part is Rubber Kit - Front/Back Strips, Natural Silver.

I found this supplier just to verify that it is the correct part number. I realize that it is an expired listing but it was just to match the part number to what the part looks like. Click on the image to get a close up view of what they look like. It looks like the adhesive is already on the rubber strip as they appear to be on peel off strips of some sort

I bought an hp envy x360 ed000 touch last year and the two rubber strips are falling off, where can I buy some new adhesive strips that will fit my laptop. I have looked all over the internet and cant find any that are an exact match for my model.

I will post pictures of the sizing of the rubber strips later on tommorrow

I need to get some some kind of glue/rubber cement like the OEM's use on the rubber feet to laptops.  I can only assume that it will be hard to replicate that glue because in my experience they always use some proprietary stuff.  The glue would be something that would be easily removed with heat or something, or just pull off.  Maybe what I need is some double sided sticky tape, I don't know what medium it would come in.

I did some research but nothing concrete!

Thanks John, it would have to be removable though, and that one don't say removable.  I don't think any silicone based product is going to be easily removed.  I have some laptops, along with customers that will be taken apart multiple times on occasion, so need to be able to remove the stuff relatively easy.  "thin double sided tape"  Yes, this should be good.  But removable will be the ticket like those dots I posted.  I need to remove an SSD that was just installed and replace with a bigger one.  Every time I do this I get lucky enough to reuse the old glue, but need something better this time.

I wouldn't use concrete anyway, might make the laptop a bit heavy.

For refixing existing feet any rubber solution glue should do the job, I think you call it 'rubber cement' in the states.
Sticks well, peels off easily.

Evo-Stik/Bostik/3M and others all do good all purpose rubber solution adhesives.

OEM's will probably be using one of their products, 3M are particularly known as industrial suppliers.

Or simply look on Amazon for 'stick on feet' there are hundreds of different shapes and sizes, get a selection pack or two of different ones, they are cheap enough.

"Concrete" haha

Nukecad, I will look into that!

I have those, but for most laptops I need something to utilize the OEM Feet.  I use those on towers and old laptops that are missing feet, good to keep the laptop higher off the surface too!  keeps them cooler.

I saw a youtube video where the uploader used Bluetack which is a removable sticky putty to put 4 water bottle caps on the bottom of the laptop to aid in cooling. The uploaded said it did a fairly decent job.

HP likes to hide screws under their rubber foot pads on their laptops.  Manufacturers use a thin double back tape but just about any would work.

I thought of that too John, which I will try also.  I learned of this by Chris Cosgrove!

Yeah, stupid HP especially!  One thing Mac does is quality cases, and just a few screws and your in, no sticky stuff and no hidden screws, no stupid plastic clips!  This is how it should be!

I doubt bluetack is strong enough. I use it for temporarily adding mass

to speakers that I'm testing for acoustic/mechanical properties.

It comes off very easily.

I'd stick with double-sided tape. However, I wonder if there will be

enough surface area for proper adhesion.

Those dang feet with cheap adhesives drive me crazy. I sympathize.

Another option: Maybe just get a new set of feet, if they include self-adhesive.

Cause at least you know that adhesive will stick...for a while.

Great input Shplad, thanks!

I didn't think BlueTack would be that good but honestly I haven't ever tried it for anything.  I will use one of the popular double sided removable tapes.  On some computers I would like to keep the original feet and of course on others it would be appropriate for after market stuff.  I have a few laptops for sale and want them to look as good as new.

@ pcpunk:-

Yeah, I'd go with double-sided tape, Punk. I used it very successfully for replacing the feet on ye anciente Dell lappie when one or two came loose. The laptop was 12 or 13 years old at the time.....it's now not far off its 19th birthday [P4 and a gig-and-a-half of DDR1], and still running sweetly.

If ya really want something strong, look around for the double-sided pads they use for attaching rear-view mirrors to vehicle windshields. Not 'designed' for this, I know - meant for attaching plastic/metal to glass - but really, really sticky, with a high 'grab' index. I believe any decent 'auto factor' [I think that's what you call 'em over there] should either stock them, or be able to get them in for you.

These babies will never come loose, I can guarantee that.

---------------------------------

@Shplad:-

One thing to remember with Blutak. If you just cut lumps off the 'sheet' as it comes in the pack, and use it immediately 'as-is', then no; it's not very strong. But if you work it around between your fingers for a while, as it warms up from the heat of your body it gets stickier & stickier, as the adhesive's properties become fully activated. It applies best in this condition.....and after it cools down again, it sets solid.....but retains the high adhesive strength. I've been using the stuff for all kinds of art/craft/mechanical/electronic projects for years, and it's surprising just how versatile it is.

I still say you can't beat a screw, however.....

Mike.
