Ingredient Spotlight

Beautiful Skincare backed by Science

Zinc

Zinc oxide is regarded as the safest, most effective ingredient in SPF. Less irritating than chemical SPF, zinc oxide offers mineral protection and works by scattering and absorbing UV rays

Homosalate

Homosalate is a type of salicylate, an organic compound. Salicylates prevent direct skin exposure from the sun’s harmful rays by absorbing Ultraviolet [UV] light

Broad Spectrum SPF

Broad Spectrum SPF protects your skin from both UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays cause premature ageing in the skin, while UVB rays cause sunburn and contribute to skin cancer

Obagi Sun Protection

Protecting your skin from sun damage is one of the most important and easiest steps in your skin care routine to protect against sun damage and to prevent skin ageing.

Obagi’s range of sun protectors have been formulated to suit a range of skin types and needs. Each product in the Obagi Sun Protection range provides either physical, chemical or combined protection against harmful UVA, UVB and IR rays, in a range of different finishes.

What’s the difference?

UVA rays contribute to the development of skin cancer, and are known to accelerate signs of ageing.

UVB rays cause short term side effects such as sunburn, but can also lead to the development of skin cancer, hyperpigmentation and signs of photo-ageing.

IR rays [infrared radiation] cause the production of free radicals, which usually lead to fine lines and wrinkles, inflammation, loss of skin elasticity and premature ageing. When combined with UV rays, IR is also shown to inflict cumulative damage.

Top tip: The easiest way to remember which type of radiation causes which type of damage by looking at their names: UVA rays = Ageing, UVB rays = Burning.

Beautiful alone and under make up

5

I’ve been seeing a lot of reviews saying the formula has changed. I’ve only been using this product since December 2021 so I don’t know what the previous formula was like, but I will say it is gritty and and definitely not matte. HOWEVER, it does not leave a white cast in person or in photo. It is easy to rub in and provides amazing protection. Not to mention, your make up will look phenomenal on top of this which is something a lot of SPF’s don’t do. It doesn’t leave you looking greasy, but glowy! Not sure what’s up with the barely noticeable grit, but whatever it is it leaves my very sensitive skin looking flawless. 10/10 would recommend!

Don't buy this junk

1

Something has changed. This feels completely different that the other times I've purchased this sunscreen. Its greasy, gritty, doesn't absorb as it normally does and leaves a white finish. I checked the ingredients according to the obagi website and thought this was the same thing but its really gross. I purchased 2 bottles, what a waste of money.

Gritty!!!

This sunscreen is gritty. I feel like I'm applying a mild exfoliator! Very strange consistency. Also, it isn't really matte. I've bought this product in the past and it wasn't like this.

Non stingy when sweaty

I’ve found the product I’ve been searching for for years. I’m a gardener, and so wanted a product that actually works [doesn’t need reapplying], and is a total block I am in 40’s and at the stage I want to preserve my skin. This product didn’t give me acne [every other product did]. This product says. Matte, it delivers, no oil slick and feels good on your face. And the most important thing, I do a lot of manual labour in hot weather, I sweat a lot. This so far is the ONLY product with this high SPF that when I have sweat run into my eyes it doesn’t sting and make my eyes bloodshot. I reckon I could wear make up under this too,

exactly what I wanted

I first learned about Obagi a few weeks ago at the dermatologist. Since turning 40 my combo-oily skin has changed & it's making me crazy! Specifically, cystic acne & brown spots. I was advised to use an spf of at least 40. Trouble is, every SPF product I've ever used [face sunscreen OR moisturiser with SPF] left my face looking and feeling like an oily mess, including the matte versions. That I was reluctant & doubtful I would find anything suitable for my needs was an understatement. After doing some extensive research I opted to try this product. Boy am I glad I did!!A little goes a long way to cover face, neck, & chest. It's not heavy, greasy, runny, slimy, or smelly. Blends & absorbs quickly & easy. NO WHITE RESIDUE and it is matte! This is NOT like anything you'll find at Target or from Banana Boat, Coppertone, or Neutrogena.Doesn't sting my eyes from sweat while out in the sun or washing my face. It's lovely. The only con is the price, but well worth the money spent.

Best sunscreen I've tried yet!

5

I tried this sunscreen because I wanted something with an SPF 50 that would be gentle, effective, and non-greasy. This Obagi sunscreen is the best I've tried yet. In addition to having the qualities of being an effective sunscreen, this one goes on the skin smoothly and is not greasy! And one of the biggest pluses: It does not give my face that chalky-whitish look that many other sunscreens do. It is not irritating to my problem-prone skin. I will be sticking with this one!

Best Sunscreen I found to go under makeup.

Obagi nu derm products are the only products i found to get rid of my hyperpigmentation. Ive tried microdermabration, chemical peels and various other products. Within 5 weeks of using the nu derm line my hyperpigmentation is almost gone and this sunscreen keeps new hyperpigmentation from forming. Its non greasy which i love!

Long-time Obagi SPF user

I've been using the Obagi SPF 35 products for years. I think this is the first time I've used the SPF 50, though. It does indeed absorb quickly and doesn't leave a shiny finish. My morning regime, after cleansing, is SkinCeuticals CE Ferrulic on face, neck, chest. Let that dry, then apply the Obagi SPF product.

Does Obagi sunscreen leave white cast?

All mineral sunscreens will have a white cast. However, this one has a grayish tinge to it that is so unflattering and does not fade. Others may have a white cast, but at least on light skin, they may have a brightening effect that looks ok. However, the Obagi is very effective.

What is the difference between warm and cool Obagi sun shield tint?

This formula is available in two shades: cool and warm. Cool is recommended for fair skin with blue, red or pink undertones, while warm is recommended for darker complexions with yellow, gold or olive undertones.

How do you use Obagi sun shield?

How To Use.

Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure and as needed..

Use a water-resistant sunscreen if swimming or sweating..

Reapply at least every 2 hours..

For children under 6 months of age: consult a doctor..

Is Obagi sunscreen mineral or chemical?

Obagi's Sun Shield Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is a sheer, quick-absorbing mineral-based formula that provides powerful UVA and UVB protection. This non-greasy sunscreen is also formulated with nasturtium flower extract to defend the skin against IR rays and HEV blue light light, which can cause premature skin aging.
