Hello, been a pokemon fan for a long time now. First game was diamond [stoked for the remakes, am probably gonna buy a switch just for them] and fell in love with the series since. Played until bw2 [also games I loved that everyone hated when they came out] and stopped playing since I never had a 3ds. Still kept up with game news, and fan reviews/gameplay reviews of every newer game. Never decided to spend the money to play them, since most people always speak negatively about the newer games. God knows sword/shield got its hate. Recently, I decided to get over myself and play some of the newer games. Bought moon and ultra sun, and started playing moon. I have no words other than I was blown away. I’ve been reading for years about how they were meh games, and the general consensus is they’re a pretty skippable generation, but within the first two hours I fell in love with them. The atmosphere, the story, the trials/kahunas, lore, and the dumb silly little mini games really had me playing a pokemon game for hours on end again. Really made me realize all this time the whole “smallest minority makes the loudest voice” thing was true. Haven’t finished the game yet [just got to the league] but man I really regret not playing them sooner. I’m gonna go back and play x/y and or/as, and probably buy a switch to play sword/shield and then the new diamond pearl remakes.
TLDR: long time fan finally plays older games that got a lot of hate, fell in love with them. Don’t let other fans decided if the game is good for you or not, play them yourself

These games are super amazing but everyone just looked past them because they don't have a gym challenge. The new Pokemon introduced here are amazing are really fit a region based off of Hawaii well. Speaking of, this game does an incredible job representing Hawaii as a whole. The gameplay of the Pokemon battles is one of the few that has the quality of life improvements, such as it showing you the type matchups if you've already battled the Pokemon, while still not being too easy. Don't get me wrong after the first playthrough it isn't too hard but it's not as easy as a lot of the other games in the series. And then there's the story, which is easily the best in the series. I won't spoil anything but it's actually really emotional and it feels like a movie and a Pokemon game at the same time almost. The story is really really really deep.

I kind of grew up with this game so I have a personal bias of it being a pretty enjoyable game. But, alot of people think its the mark of the downfall of pokemon. To me personally that would be sword and shield but thats a poll for another day. I want to hear peoples opinions on this, so vote away please :]. This would be of the Ultra versions of the game since its the most "updated" version, and is the game anyone would try if they wanted to play sun and moon.

I have watched the pokemon series since Indigo and have loved it. I find that as a whole, the pokemon series has wonderfully positive themes of friendship, teamwork and perseverance in the face of adversity. I love it.
That said, no series has hit quite as hard as Sun and Moon.
At first, I thought I wouldn't be into it. The island theme made for a very limited aesthetic and I wasn't a huge fan of the art style. I gave it a shot though, because it's on Netflix so why not?
I'm so glad I did. This show has some of the best supporting characters, some of the best fights, and some of the most wholesome, happy and positive slice-of-life storylines I've ever been privileged enough to witness in an anime.
Im prone to the winter sads™ and watched it throughout the worst of the cold season, and it brought a lot of warmth and happiness into an otherwise poopy time of year.
That said though, get ready to FEEL during some episodes. I cried multiple times. The writing is great.
What I really loved is that every supporting character got their own arc, their own development and their own slice of life episodes. With few exceptions, every character felt fully developed and real, and that made their interactions with Ash all the more meaningful. I find this is pretty unique to Sun and Moon, aside from Journeys, which I think is doing a great job of following Sun and Moon's footsteps when it comes to side character importance.
I also loved the general theme, setting and experience of Alola, which admittedly surprised me. A lot of attention was given to the pokemon, including regional variants, and I feel that I didn't miss out on any of the new Pokemon featured there. I also feel that in Alola, Pokemon and humans have integrated in a way I've hardly seen elsewhere. They arent just a part of the culture, the culture is built around them, from the island guardians to the grand trials, and I think that's neat.
I really feel like any true pokemon fan would enjoy these seasons in particular and I highly recommend giving them a watch if you haven't already. Highly underrated.
Why is Pokémon Sun and Moon so hard?
A lot of the difficulty comes from the amount of tactics that you have to use in a fight. The battle system has been refined, and the island challenge is an amazing change of pace that feels incredibly natural, and instead of facing every elite four at the very end, you fight them at the end of an island's content.
Why was Pokémon Sun and Moon so good?
Sun and Moon have had the best story compared to most of the games. The characters were pretty unforgettable characters including a shirtless Pokemon professor, a bored cop whose home is filled with Meowths, and a street gang founded by a man who failed his Pokemon journey.
