Remote Desktop cuts off bottom of screen

I'm using a Dell Latitude laptop with two external displays. When I make a connection in Remote Desktop [Windows 7] and maximize the window it only resizes to the max resolution of my built-in display [1360 x 768], not the external monitors [1680 x 1050]. I've seen a lot of answers which say to use Ctrl + Alt + Break, but that doesn't work for me -- it's the same size screen with a big black border around it. Is there any way to fix this? Like if I manually edit an .rdp file?

What is overscan?

Overscan is when the edges of a display are trimmed. Overscan can occur when a PC is connected to an external display, such as an HDTV.

To fix overscan in the Intel® Graphics Command Center:

  1. Open the Intel® Graphics Command Center:
    • In the Windows search box, search for Intel. The Intel Graphics Command Center will appear as a search result. Click the Intel Graphics Command Center search result to launch the application.
  2. Click Display in the left navigational menu.
  3. Select the monitor that is showing the overscan issue.
  4. In the General tab, locate the Scale setting and click Custom in the dropdown menu.
  5. Adjust the two sliders until the the screen fits.
  6. Click X to close the the window.
Note

Displays may provide a button or menu item to adjust overscan. See the display manual or contact your display manufacturer for more information.

Custom scaling is only available for external displays.

Settings Session Settings Fullscreen Mode

The display settings allow the user to control how the device they are connecting to is visualized on their screen. The default settings can be configured in Settings > Display. The display settings can also be changed mid-session through the AnyDesk toolbar.

Settings

In Settings > Display, the user can set the default session quality and view mode when connecting to a new AnyDesk client.

Quality: Choose between higher quality or a better reaction time.

Visual helpers: These helpers give you better visibility of actions.

View Mode: Controls how the remote image is displayed locally. Here, the user can choose to start a new session in fullscreen mode by default and whether to use edge scrolling or scroll bars while the "Original Size" view mode is selected.

Hardware Acceleration: Choose your preferred renderer [OpenGL/Direct3D/DirectDraw] or disable acceleration. You can also choose to reduce the rendering to 16bit.

Please note that Direct3D forces exclusive fullscreen mode meaning if the focus leaves AnyDesk, AnyDesk will minimize.

For multi-monitor setups, we recommend using "DirectDraw" or "OpenGL".

Individual Settings: Save settings for each desk or reset them to default on every connection.

Session Settings

If the user wishes to change the display settings mid-session, they can also be changed mid-session through the AnyDesk toolbar.

Here, the user can:

  • Enable fullscreen mode
  • Change the size of the remote view on the local AnyDesk client.
    • Original uses the original size and resolution of the remote display.
    • Shrink "shrinks" the remote display to the maximum size allowed by the aspect ratio of the local AnyDesk window. This feature should be used if part of the remote display is being cut off in the local AnyDesk window.
    • Stretch "stretches" the remote display to the maximum size allowed by the aspect ratio of the local AnyDesk window. This feature should be used if the remote view in the local AnyDesk is too small and does not fill the majority of the AnyDesk window.
  • Auto-adapt the resolution of the remote device to maximize the usage of space on your screen. This is especially helpful if the local and remote devices have different aspect ratios or sizes.
  • Change the audio and video quality of the session
  • Enabling "Preserve details" sharpens the quality of the image but may result in higher data and resource usage.
  • If "Detect connection speed" is enabled, then AnyDesk will automatically choose the best audio and video quality based on the local and remote devices' estimated network speed.
  • Enabling "Show remote cursor" shows the cursor of the remote user. This is especially useful if the connecting user does not have keyboard and mouse permissions and needs to see what actions the remote user is performing with the mouse.
  • If the remote device has multiple monitors, enabling "Follow remote cursor" automatically switches the AnyDesk view to the correct monitor if the remote user moves the cursor to a different monitor.
  • Enabling "Show move/size helper" shows a thicker semi-transparent border around the window being moved or resized to help make clear what window is currently being resized or moved.

Fullscreen Mode

AnyDesk for Windows offers two forms of fullscreen mode: one for Direct3D and one for DirectDraw/OpenGL.

Direct3D

Note: Direct3D runs in exclusive fullscreen mode. If using a multi-monitor set up and fullscreen is desired, please use DirectDraw/OpenGL.

If Direct3D is selected in Settings > Display > Hardware Acceleration, the below menu can be seen when hovering over the top middle edge of the local display.

Using the numbered monitor icons on the left side of the menu bar, users are able to switch between remote displays.

In the middle of the menu bar, the user will find the option to minimize AnyDesk.

In the middle of the menu bar, the user will find the option to leave fullscreen mode.

When clicking the menu bar on the left, the user will find the options normally found in the AnyDesk toolbar such as Actions and Permissions settings. See Session Settings.

DirectDraw/OpenGL

If DirectDraw/OpenGL is selected in Settings > Display > Hardware Acceleration, the below menu can be seen when hovering over the top middle edge of the local display.

Using the numbered monitor icons on the left side of the menu bar, users are able to switch between remote displays.

In the middle of the menu bar, the user will find the option to leave fullscreen mode.

When clicking the menu bar on the left, the user will find the options normally found in the AnyDesk toolbar such as Actions and Permissions settings. See Session Settings.
