18-135mm is nano usm review năm 2024

(From Canon lens literature) Canon U.S.A., Inc., has introduced the Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens, a newly designed lens with a premium exterior design that will serve as the kit lens for the new Canon EOS 80D camera. This the first Canon lens equipped with Nano USM, a new type of focusing motor that combines the benefits of a ring USM (ultrasonic motor) for high-speed AF during still photo shooting and lead-screw type STM (stepping motor) for smooth and quiet movie AF, and improved AF speeds up to 4.3x (Tele) and 2.5x (Wide) faster than the previous model. The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens also provides up to four stops of optical image stabilization. A new lens hood, the EW-73D, is included with the new lens.

To further enhance the ease-of-use when shootings movies with a Canon DLSR or Cinema EOS cameras, Canon has also introduced the Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1, specifically constructed to be compatible with the design of the new Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens. The Canon Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1 is the world's first detachable zoom adapter that provides silent and smooth zoom and can adjusted incrementally to 10 different levels of zoom speed. Additionally, the PZ-E1 can be controlled remotely using the Canon Camera Connect app.

  • 10 out of 10 pointsand recommended by Philnick (8 reviews) Great image quality and good zoom range. I've had this lens since I got it kitted on my EOS 80D and it's lived on the camera almost all the time since, even though I have several more specialized lenses: EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS USM (which I've loved to death since I went digital with a Rebel XT), EF-S 10-18 IS (which DxO ViewPoint turns into a great cinerama lens), Tamron's 45mm /1.8 VC and Sigma's 105mm f/2,8 OS HSM DG Macro (VC and OS being those brands' synonyms for IS). I ordered the new EOS R7 body-only, since this lens, with the EF to RF adapter, would have made the RF-S 18-150 kit lens unnecessary. When I realized, two months later, that Canon was only shipping the kit, not just the body, I changed my order to the kit and got it immediately. Amazingly, that tiny lens is as good as this one. (See my review of it here.) I'll avoid buying RF mount lenses until they come down in price - most are "L" glass. PS I recently bought the now-discontinued power zoom attachment for this lens on eBay before it could disappear completely - you never know when you might need it! It adjusts the zoom by turning a worm gear that engages the ribs in the rubber ring you otherwise turn with your hand. Pretty clever. It has Fast and Slow settings, runs on four AAA batteries, and can be remote-controlled by Canon's smartphone app for EOS cameras - hence the contacts that mate with contacts on the bottom of this lens. reviewed July 31st, 2022 (purchased for $300)

One of the fastest lenses around for AF. On any system! IQ is very good for the range.

Nothing for the price.

Wow! What a great speed. Fast and accurate. The newest NANO USM drive is incredibly fast and accurate. Using it on my 100D, 80D, M50 and now the M5. Great lens for every day walk around.

I have a 600D with 18-55 kit lens. It doesn't get a lot of use, unfortunately, but is nice to take out if I am specifically heading out to take photos. Otherwise use my Sony RX100 M3.

For a while, I have fancied a longer lens that can also be my only lens. I want image quality to equal/exceed the current kit lens and do not want higher than 18mm at wide end.

The EF-S 18-135mm f3.5-5.6 IS USM looks like a good bet. Reviews mention fringing and barrel distortion, which I assume LR will remove, but otherwise seem positive.

I can get it new for £239 from HDEW Cameras who also have the STM version for £219.

So, it's a budget lens for a budget DSLR. Given that, all opinions welcome.

First I want to confirm that you were referring to these two Canon lenses (the two most recent releases of the EF-S 18-135mm model):

I have been using a copy of each of the two above. The latest Nano USM version has the connector underneath the lens to support the new Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1 (providing electrical zooming that helps deliver more natural zooming while shooting video) which I don't need and, I suspect, neither do you.

I consider the two optically identical and recommend the less expensive STM version.

Performance-wise. the 18-135mm range is versatile and the images produced with the latest STM/USM versions are beautiful. I have no reasons to look down on them as cheap average "kit" lenses.

Yes, I was referring to those. Thank you very much for confirming the image quality is good. I'd probably go for the USM as it's only £20 more.

As it's approx 500g, I guess I need to get to a camera shop and try my body with this, or a similar lens, to see how it feels in the hand. Having only had the kit lens, I might get a surprise!

The USM that came with my 80D kit performed better than my STM. The latter has been sold.

Unfortunately, you do need to be quite careful about the exact model and version of lens you buy. Canon’s made the 18-135 for many years, and there have been several versions. Shop carefully.

The exact identifications of the various versions of this Canon lens are pathetic. I made it clearer to the OP (regarding the two latest versions) by adding links and pictures.

At least, it may be helpful to know that the (Nano) USM version of the EF-S 18-135mm was released together with the 80D in early 2016.

I had the original 18-135 for a while. It was a great lens. I probably shouldn't have sold it.

Re: Canon EF-S 18-135mm USM - image quality?

OK, thanks for all the further clarification. I went to my local shop who only had a second hand version of the original for sale at an unattractive price but it gave me a chance to try it on the body of my 600D. Whilst the overall weight is significantly increased, the camera felt nicely balanced in the hand and no visible shake at 130mm.

I'm going to buy a new USM version. I think is a great price, albeit white boxed as part of a split kit: https://www.hdewcameras.co.uk/canon-ef-s-18-135mm-f35-56-is-usm-lens-nano-4665-p.asp

I had the STM version with my 7D Mark II, and its AF speed was fantastic.

Ive had both the STM and Nano version (still go tthe Nano version) there is a huge difference in AF speeds between the two lenses, in certain circumstances. I sold the STM version after getting the Nano version.

IQ seems great on both, but the lack of sluggishness was what made me keep the Nano. In fact i use the 18-135 more on my M50 than i do any other lens, and this includes my L lenses. Id even go further as to say this one lens is what keeps me happy with the crop format. I do have a 5D4 but never use it these days.

What IS the 18

Providing a focal length range equivalent to 29-216mm in 35mm format, the EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS covers both wide enough angles for landscape photography and is narrow enough for portraiture and sports photography. It's an excellent step-up from the standard kit lens for buyers who would like a longer zoom range.

When did the Canon 18

Canon EF-S 18–135mm f/3.5–5.6 IS USM f/3.5-5.6 IS USM, announced on 17 February 2016. New features are the new Nano USM and the possibility to connect the Power Zoom Adapter PZ-E1, which allows a soft zoom for video. The lens is also available as bundle with the Canon EOS 77D and 80D, which was announced same date.

IS the 18 to 135mm sharp?

The Bottom Line The Canon EF-S 18-135mm f/3.5-5.6 IS USM is a sharp lens with a long zoom range and a fast USM motor that pairs well with Canon's Dual Pixel AF technology. PCMag editors select and review products independently.

What IS the difference between micro USM and nano USM?

While Ring USM and Micro USM have been highly regarded for their fast, precise AF drive, smooth, consistent movement is the forte of stepping motor technology (STM). Nano USM combines the principles of USM with the mechanical structure of STM to achieve both speed and smoothness.
