What can I expect out of this qualification?

The purpose of this qualification is to provide the baking industry with trade qualified plant bakers who can produce large quantities of bakery products to commercial standards.

The qualification is designed for people working in commercial plant baking environments with responsibility for meeting organisational production and quality requirements.

Graduates will be capable of mixing, baking and finishing large quantities of bakery products without supervision, while meeting industry health and safety standards.

About the provider

Bakels Training Organisation (Bakels Training School) is NZQA registered and accredited to teach the New Zealand Certificate in Trade Baking (Craft or Plant) at Level 3 and 4.

The New Zealand Certificate in Trade Baking is an apprenticeship in baking and require students to be working 30 hours a week minimum in a commercial or plant bakery. Students must be aged 16 or over and must be either a New Zealand citizen or hold a Residency or Work Visa to be enrolled at the Training School.

Students will be required to complete on-job and theory assessments and will attend a block course once a year. Training facilities for block courses are located in Auckland, Palmerston North and Christchurch, which are fully equipped and have highly trained and qualified tutors.

The qualification includes three strands to allow graduates to specialise in producing a full range of either bread, cake and biscuit or pastry baking products.
