Show Looking to upgrade my current Hikvision Turrets, what's the best LOW LIGHT Turret that Hikvision do right now? Currently have a DS-2CD2335FWD-I Don't want a ColourVu, as they use a Supplemental light, I need this to be stealth yet have the best low light quality What would be better than that? With the Colorvu you can disable the supplemental light and they work very well, mine have the light disabled and distant street lighting is enough to give a great colour picture
I tested my ColorVu with both the external light on and off. I don't need the light on at all as still get great video quality - checkout my comparison vid HERE if you would like to see how impressive it really is!
@carphone That ColorVu is incredible! I've actually got two of them already, but have not installed them. Is it possible to set a maximum white light level? I know the IR lights on the Hikvision cameras you can set a maximum. I usually run mine in auto mode, but limit them to 5% of maximum - just enough to provide a little light. It might be nice to do the same with the white list, just a slight glow.

Yea, that looks like it would work. Have the light set on, with a low limit. Mine will be pointed at the road, so probably would not be appropriate to have a white light blasting out onto the public street. See this is a shot from one of my cameras. I have turn IR mode on, but limit it to a maximum of 5%. The camera can still choose to use the light or not, but only to a max power set by the user.
I contacted jamesecurity who does great reviews and comparisons from this forum, he sent me a video comparing the duhua starlight vs the new 8mp darkfighter camera and said go for the darkfighter. Don't want a light coming on in the night, so that's the reason for sticking with a darkfighter. Question is can a ColourVu (without a light on) beat the Darkfighter DS-2CD2385G1-I or my current DS-2CD2335FWD-I in low light? I want to stick with a Hikvision model as it have a Hikvision NVR and want everythoing through the same NVR and App.
Yes indeed. Check out the comparative reviews and you'll see why. I definitely don't want the ColourVu as it has a light on it. Which may not be needed and can be left turned off. Don't want a light coming on in the night, It doesn't have to. Mine is set to stay off. And the ColorVu replaced a DS-2CD2335FWD-I

Sounds like you think these are the best (lacking government budget) low light cameras right now even with the LED light off? I don’t frequent this forum often - I’m more on the automation and security side of this world. But seems to me the ColorVu is a breakthrough? Or am I missing something? Maybe just drinking the Kool Aid and falling for marketing hype? I’ve read several reviews and YouTube videos and they look impressive. Would certainly be an upgrade for me it appears. Well, I've been I’m lurking on this forum and have become very interested in the ColorVu cameras. Sounds like you think these are the best (lacking government budget) low light cameras right now even with the LED light off? Hang fire on the ColorVu, I've been doing some more reading and research. Ultimately, for me I want to see be able to see faces and details in darkness without any supplemental LED light, IR is what I want to use. I am contacting a few cctv companies on youtube here in the UK for their take on things. I was all for buying the DS-2CD2385G1-I - but then Alistair earlier got me thinking, the DS-2CD2385G1-I is a Value software darkfighter (powered-by- darkfighter) which is just entry level To get real clarity, I need either a true darkfighter, darkfighter x, but the price jumps big time. If anyone has any footage or links, to really make up my mind, I would need to know which TURRET is best at Low light using IR. If would be good to have an answer for this so everyone knows which is are the definite best at low light, i'm sick of clicking on hikvision cams individually, there should be a look-up sheet that compares the low light on all cameras...
If you have brand flexibility, Dahua has a series of cameras (5442) that use the same "bigger" 4MP 1/1.8" image sensor that the ColorVu uses, plus they have IR. These models have become very popular here over the last year. If your setting is anything like I have I would definitely get the Colorvu, I have a 3mp darkfighter lite variofocal bullet, an 8mp exir variofocal turret, a 2mp darkfighter bullet and 3no 4mp Colorvu turrets and without question I prefer the Colorvu, but it depends on your property setup, my variofocals are set on maximum zoom for my driveway entrances and even with some street lighting they have to use the IR. The Colorvu's are closer to the building, and the way they turn night into day with the led's OFF can't be matched by any of the other cameras I have in any scenario. Damn you guys (joke) for upselling the ColorVu… even with the LEDs off................. Thar's quite a good assortment you have, this cam will primarly be used to cover a long driveway which is very dark and little backlight as there is no streetlights near. Ok, which ColorVu do you have nearj? You said turret, can you mention the model and what mm lens did you go for? I currently have 6mm, but fancy a 4mm this time round Is there nobody here backing the Darkfighter ones over the ColorVu?

I have 1no DS-2CD2347G1-L ColorVU 4MP 4MM And 2no of the DS-2CD2347G3E-L ColorVU 4MP 4MM They are both essentially the same cameras just purchased from different markets
Worth considering if that's your key requirement is that for faces, much more usable detail is available for a colour image when the camera is in day mode (with or without supplemental illumination as the scene allows) than a scene illuminated with IR LEDs when the camera is in night mode. edit cover a long driveway which is very dark and little backlight Though, admittedly, this pretty well eliminates the ColorVu as you'd have to use the LEDs, which you've said you don't wish to. |
