The 71st Miss Universe competition is heading to New Orleans, Louisiana!

And we’re not suprised as this news has leaked a week before the official announcement.

The Announcement of Miss Universe Venue

The 71st edition of the Miss Universe pageant will be held in New Orleans, Louisiana on Saturday, January 14, 2023. The international event will be hosted at the New Orleans Ernest N. Morial Convention Center.

“There is no place like New Orleans. This vibrant city has been the top of our list to host for quite some time due to its rich cultural history, as well as its unique arts, entertainment and culinary scene,” says Paula Shugart, President of the Miss Universe Organization. “I look forward to our delegates from all over the world getting to experience all it has to offer.”

The highly anticipated event will feature almost 90 women form around the globe vying for the job of Miss Universe, through the process of personal statements, in depth interviews, and various categories including evening gown and swimwear. The evening would culminate with the reigning Miss Universe Harnaaz Sandhu, who brought the title back to India for the first time in twenty-one years, crowning her successor.

Sashes&Scripts’ Thoughts

By now we should be shocked with this news. This would be the 4th year that two MU editions will be held in the same year. Reeks of financial trouble, IMHO. But at least it will now push through. In honesty, these delays is being compounded by the whiplash changes in Miss Universe eligibilities and rules are detrimental to the MMU brand. And we are all getting tired of how the pageant seems to be lost and unsure of its own future.

The pageant really needs to commit and stick to a given pageant calendar. It has to try and avoid major events so that it does not get bumped off the network schedule being a continuous ratings drain as of late. If there are no major issues to having it back to the good old days where the pageant is held during May to August, then the pageant needs to recalibrate to allow them to stick to that schedule.
