If you put money down and were promised a "preorder spot" I would get your money back if I were you. Sounds like Nissan is just making the Zs and sending them to dealers for Spring delivery. Most likely dealers will be specing their own Zs to start first deliveries.
I guarantee your “preorder deposit” won’t me jack sheeeit to a dealer if someone else comes along willing to pay over sticker for the Z.

So Nissan expects us to wait for the dealer lottery, and play dice on what's available? No fckn way.

If I had to guess, depending on how big a dealer is and their sales volume, they'll get 3, 5, maybe up to 10 cars in the first batch. Unless you know the sales manager really well you probably won't be able to spec a car out yourself, at least for the first batch.

Right. The main issue is time. We have to wait till Spring shipments arrive, and if we can't get the color and spec we want from that batch, we have to wait till Nissan says we can order a car. When and if they do that, we order, and wait 2 or 3 more months. That puts us into the middle of next Summer. Think I'm going to buddy up to some local sales managers this week !

Haha that's what I'm doing. I think I'm going to start building some nice relationships with my local car dealers. Lol

No issue in Aus…dealers order from the Australian allocation. If they can’t get what you requested they will let you know …having said that I have no idea which model we are getting because it will most likely only be one.
I’m hoping for the performance

This follows the story every dealer in Houston/Austin/Dallas/San Antonio is telling me.

You're pretty much playing the lottery if you want one first, allocations are based on previous Z and GT-R sales.

They won't even think about taking custom orders until after the first shipments go out and from there, no telling when you'll get your car.

I wonder what the breakdown of sport vs performance, and manual vs auto, will be on the initial batch?!

I think it’s a waiting game for now until some communication of actual dealer shipments are on the way. Then you’ll best work with a dealer you’re comf with and have them search across the country for the trim and color you want. I’m kind of prepared to fly and drive if need to, make it a road trip vacation to get it home. Had a few friends did this on other cars, getting what they want. Your dealer may want to do a trade if not too far away.

Good luck……this is becoming a sellers market ugh!

If you have a good relationship with your dealer and you're a trusted buyer (bought at least 1 or 2 new cars from them before) I'm sure you could talk to the sales manager and persuade them to order a car in your "spec".

The downside with this first batch of cars is that they will more than likely be marketed up $5-10k over MSRP.

There are few scenarios I see anyone getting a first batch car at MSRP:

- 1. They are family/very good friends with the owner of the dealership or sales manager.
- 2. You trade in a 370Z or another high-demand car into the 2023 Z so they can turn around and sell it for $5k+ profit. This way they're making money somewhere. The market is crazy right now, especially for sports cars it seems. My dealer has sent me 2 letters offering to buy my 370Z in the last 6 months. The most recent offer was $2000 more than the first offer.
- 3. You get super lucky, find a dealer with a 2023 Z that's been sitting for over a month on the lot and they want to get rid of it.

I don’t understand though…not available for pre order through Nissan, because it’s coming straight to dealers…but obviously if the dealer is happy to take a deposit it is in theory a pre order, they just can’t guarantee colour/spec yet.
Why wouldn’t Nissan fill pre orders from dealers first, it would make sense to make the enthusiast happy, and then what’s left distribute. This seems to be a big error on their part if you ask me.

Not that it effects us here, but I feel for you guys

Just so you know the U.S. is their main priority as it is their biggest consumer base. If the U.S. isn't getting pre-orders I highly doubt Australia will be. A deposit doesn't mean jack sheeeit unless you have a written contract guaranteeing that the dealership will sell you the car.

I have a written contract ( exact same one that you get when you purchase a car straight away), with order number, Nissan dealer number and signatures by all, license details taken and entered into their system. They can not place an order electronically as you are correct they do not know what they are getting per dealer yet, however it has been entered into the system manually….so

I understand that Nissan’s biggest market it the US, however due to exporting the vehicles and all the restrictions and checks that it entails in Australia, ALL cars come through Nissan Australia and then dealers order off their inventory, this is how it is done for almost all car dealers in Australia.
You also need to understand in Australia pre ordering specs doesn’t mean much to us, because there will only be one level available, and I highly doubt that interior colours will be an option.
Basically our options will most likely be transmission and colour …that’s about it, sometimes later down the track you can order a car with added options, but almost unheard of at launch.
Even the mini the ultimate in adding and taking away features now comes in three trim levels in Aus per model and you can no longer customise

Same as dealer mark ups…you guys are at the dealers mercy. Here Nissan Aus sets the prices and dealers are not permitted to sell above it …different countries have different rules and perimeters.

But yes I have a written contract, hard to believe maybe but true. There is another Aussie on this forum who said the same as me

I called a couple Nissan dealers near me.
They all said the same thing.
Best they can do is putting names in contact lists.
No pre-order, no deposit.

When the new Zs arrive next Spring, you bet there will be ADM.
$10k-20k won't surprise me.
You might have to wait 1-2 yrs for MSRP.

Corvette C8 is a good example.
For C8, at least there are a few dealers selling them at MSRP.
You just need to wait for your turn.
