Best Korean skincare for acne Reddit

i used to have super acne prone skin, but it has now cleared up because i’m getting older lmao.

the key to managing my acne prone phase was to hydrate, soothe, and moisturize. i find that if i do those correctly, the acne go away quickly and leave little to no marks.

skin type: used to be mildly oily, dehydrated, sensitive and acne prone (now it’s normal, slightly sensitive)

climate: humid hot tropics

first cleanser :

the body shop camomile silky cleansing oil (it’s not ab, but it’s easily available in my area)

second / morning cleanser :

cosrx low ph good morning cleanser - i use this one on days when i produce a lot of oils, humid days

dr. g pH cleansing gel foam - very mild, doesn’t strip at all, very pleasant cleansing experience

toner:

HadaLabo Gokujyun Premium Hyaluron Lotion - my go to when i was acne prone. it is very hydrating and i always have one in stock

essence:

missha time revolution artemisia treatment essence - i have the mist bottle ones, i like it a lot. it calms my skin right away

serum:

be plain vitamin brightening ampoule - mainly for the niacinamide content to brighten and somehow my acne tends to heal faster. use this with TO niacinamide 10% interchangeably

moisturizer:

dr. g red blemish soothing cream - this one make sure my skin is cool and calm throughout the day and retains moisture and hydration really well

sunscreen :

goodal mild protect natural filter sun cream spf 50+ pa+++ - my skin hate chem filter and totally comfortable with physical filter. this one blends nicely and just protect your skin. has a white cast, definitely not for darker skin tone

dermatory sunthana hypoallergenic sun fluid spf 50+ pa++++ - this is an upgrade from the goodal one because it’s liquid and blends super nicely. white cast is minimum and disappear into the skin. doesn’t aggravate the skin, doesn’t worsen acne.

that’s mostly for daily routine. for extra care i got : krave beauty kale-lalu-yaha - once a week to once in two weeks. used to be in love with pick glow tonic, but this one definitely friendlier to acne prone skin

cosrx bha liquid - once a week to once in two weeks. it’s just a good basic bha exfoliator

mediheal tea tree mask - usually use this after using the two exfoliator mentioned above (it goes like cleanse-chem exfoliator-sheet mask). my skin gets red after exfoliation and this calms it down

olive young care plus pimple patch - i have a lot of this after a trip to korea (they were on buy one get 3 sale) and it’s just a nice basic hydrocolloid patch to suck up the gunk of the acne.

acne sucks, but don’t get frustrated on it. so long as you don’t over fuss about it, it’ll go away without a fight

(This is not about a personal problem, just general thoughts on the topic!)

I follow a couple of asian beauty tiktokers and something that I noticed was a lot of people saying that the k-beauty solution to acne is usually to hydrate it instead of dehydrate which is what western solutions go for. This appealed to my because I have very dry and sensitive skin and it can react harshly to a lot of ingredients, especially drying/exfoliating ones.

(Side note on sensitivity: I can’t even use raw aloe vera gel or products with high unprocessed aloe vera concentrations! Aloe vera is supposed to be THE soothing skin ingredient but my face goes all red and itchy 😔 I hate it here)

Anyway, back to the point. I ran out of pimple patches, so I was looking at k-beauty patches. However, I noticed that most of them are hydrocolloid patches. I’m totally a fan of those, they work wonders and aren’t too harsh on my skin, but from my understanding of them, hydrocolloid patches also work by sucking out the moisture and gunk out right? So drying the pimple? Which is also what western pimple patches usually do.

So my question is: what methods are people referring to when they say the k-beauty answer to acne is hydration? Are they talking about sheet masks? Serums? Also, does the same method work for blackheads & whiteheads?

Which korean cream or products do you use to get rid of acne and redness? I heard about the cosrx centella blemish cream but I dont know too much about it.

Thanks 👍🏼

cosrx 96 and cosrx 92. those will be all you need. both products reduce the acne bumps and scars. cosrx96 is significantly more moisturizing while the 92 brightens and makes your skin super glowy and smooth.

level 2

Seconding the Cosrx 96! I don’t find it super moisturizing on my skin but it absolutely helps with breakouts and redness so it is HG from that standpoint. Using it reduced my breakout recovery time from 1 week or more to only about 3 days!

I don't have acne but I have acne scars and Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream works wonders if you're not in a hurry. It cools my skin down every night and really helps with the redness. For acne I've been using the (affordable option) Etude House AC Pink Powder Spot, works okay. You can also try Cosrx One Step Pimple Clear Pads. They come in 70 pads per pack and really helps with the gentle exfoliation, even with sensitive skin.

got two jar of that too =) . loving the calming effect.

level 1

I like COSRX’s pimple patches and Line Friends Acne Sheet Masks.

level 2

Cosrx pimple patches were awesome to go out in because they also hid the redness of my cystic acne and meant I didn’t need to cover with makeup. Just ordering them to the UK isn’t easy as they’re always sold out

level 1

My HG pimple treatment is the Sidmool Spot Ointment. It’s amazing - flattens inflamed pimples over 1-2 nights. Here is the Ratzilla link that got me onto it and started my love affair with Sidmool.

For generalised redness (due to irritated skin) I love the Etude House Soon Jung line. My favourite is the sleeping pack cos it’s so soothing, but the toner, emulsion and balm are also nice. The A’pieu Madecassoside gel is nice as well - feels light and refreshing.

level 2

I love the sidmool spot ointment ! It's so unique and works well without any exfoliating or actives in it, I got it for my pregnant sister and she loves that she can use it right now and it's effective

level 1

Etude Soonjung balm and the rest of the line. Also also CosRX snail and Scinic AIO honey and snail.

level 1

Leaders AC Clear Treatment Mask for when I'm breaking out super bad! It's my HG sheet mask, has snail goo in it, and takes my redness down by quite a bit both after the mask, and the next day. I regularly stock up on it at Ulta whenever I go there (even though the markup is crazy, but meeeeh lazy).

level 1

Cosrx 96 with a few drops of TO Niacinamide (I think the latter is technically a Canadian brand but I've seen it before at oo35mm.) I have horribly angry, inflammed, acne-prone skin and this calms it all down.

level 1

I have tried the etude house pink powder spot treatment, and the meishoku cream with no success. Benzoyl Peroxide is medically proven to kill acne bacteria. I specially like the oxy 5 asian version.

level 1

The Klairs Blue Calming Cream has been working pretty well for me. I've been having cystic acne, I apply it in the evening and the next day they have reduced in size until they go away and don't break out. I feel like it's calming my irritated skin.

level 1

soon jung line + snail mucin + cosrx centella blemish cream + vit c. Though I believe the blemish cream works not because it has centella in it, but just because it has a high zinc content (haven't tried swapping it for other high zinc pimple treatments in a long time, so can't really compare, but yeah it does it's job).

level 1

A bit unlike the other types of products mentioned already, but the Dr. Jart cicapair color correcting cream is great for covering up/soothing redness! It has spf so I only use it before I go out, but it's been a great in help in addressing the redness of my skin.
