a little background; iv'e always loved photography, never really had serious camera, was occasionally borrowing cameras from friends (70d, d7100)... 3 months ago i finally bought a XT20 with the 16-50 kit lens.

Iv'e been playing around with it and i'm still learning, i love this camera but i just feel like i want MORE.. more DR, better IQ.. a better camera.. and the A7iii is sooo tempting!!

i love shooting everything, but my fav is landscapes and nature..

now should i sell my XT20 and invest in a 3000$ setup?

or maybe i should just get a better lens for the XT20 that will give me better results and continue learning and improving?

and if so, what lens would be ideal for me?

$3000 may sounds like a decent budget in APS-C world, but it won't get you very far if you want to go FF, especially with Sony. Both xt20 and a7iii are very good in terms of bang for your buck, but once you look at prices of Sony lenses, suddenly Fuji lenses are no longer pricey.

You won't have a massive improvement in IQ by switching from Fuji to Sony. Between 1 and 2 stops in noise and DR... It's not nothing, but it doesn't make the difference between a good picture and a bad picture. In 99% of situations you won't even notice it unless you make a side-by-side comparison at 200% zoom.

Yet there are good reasons to switch, for instance if you shoot RAW or need some specialty lenses (like Loxia). But if it's purely for IQ, you might be disappointed.

So far you've been using the kit lens with small aperture. Rather than jumping straight to FF and unable to afford any good glass, why don't you grab a 35mm f2, play with DOF and extra light gathering, see if that will improve your output?

Which focal lenghts do you use the most?

i use wide the most (16mm)

i love landscapes, i love wide angles, but some times if like i want more... like lower aperture for lowlight photos (that's why im not sure about the 10-24mm f/4)...

mayb i should just get the 23mm f2 or 1.4? or the 16mm 1.4?

or the XF 23mm F2??

idk im so confused

If you love landscape and want a fast aperture, then the 16mm 1.4 seems to be the way to go.

$3000 can get you a A7iii with FE28-70 kit lens and a Voigtlander 15/4.5. You retain a lot of portability but also get higher IQ, much better battery life, joystick, etc. The big improvement in video is icing on the cake.

People who complain about Sony lenses costing too much should look at third-party lenses which can be excellent.

You've been able to capture fantastic images with the kit lens! The 16-55mm f/2.8 could be a decent place to start that can be quite versatile but might not offer you a huge improvement for the price. If you want more dynamic range, then the A7III should be able to offer you that. The 16-35mm f/4 paired with the 70-200mm f/4 can fill your landscape and nature needs but that's not going to be cheap...
