In a statement issued by the Hong Kong government, a spokesman said that as the first day of January and National Day in 2023 both fall on a Sunday, the day following them will be designated as a general holiday in substitution. “Moreover, as Lunar New Year's Day in 2023 falls on a Sunday, the fourth day of Lunar New Year will be designated as a general holiday in substitution,” the spokesman said. For employees who work Monday to Friday shifts, taking leave on Jan 26 and 27 will create a nine-day extended Lunar New Year holiday from Jan 21 to Jan 29.
