What are the UK school holidays for 2022 2023?

School holidays have only just finished, with kids piling back into schools for the new year. After six weeks off, some will be raring to get back in the classroom, whilst others will be back to watching the clock waiting for half-term.

If you want to plan to get ahead of the game, here's all the holidays for the 2022-2023 and 2023-2024 academic years. Most Liverpool schools have the same school holiday dates, but dates do vary across the UK depending on where you are.

Some Catholic, Church of England and Hebrew schools may also differ so contact your child’s school to check their dates.

Autumn Term 2022

• Starts: Thursday, September 1
• Ends: Wednesday, December 21
• Half term: Monday, October 24 to Friday, October 28
• Christmas break: Thursday, December 22 to Tuesday, January 3

Spring Term 2023

• Starts: Wednesday, January 4
• Ends: Friday, March 31
• Half term: Monday, February 13 to Friday, February 17
• Easter break: Monday, April 3 to Friday, April 14

Summer Term 2023

• Starts: Monday, April 17
• Ends: Wednesday, July 19
• May day: Monday, May 1
• Half term: Monday, May 29 to Friday, June 2

2023/2024

Autumn Term 2023

• Starts: Friday, September 1
• Ends: Friday, December 22
• Half term: Monday, October 30 to Friday, November 3
• Christmas break: Monday, December 25 to Friday, January 5

Spring Term 2024

• Starts: Monday, January 8
• Ends: Thursday, March 28
• Half term: Monday, February 12 - Friday, February 16
• Easter break: Friday, March 29 (bank holiday) to Friday, April 12

Summer Term 2024

• Starts: Monday, April 15
• Ends: Monday, July 22
• May day: Monday, May 6
• Half term: Monday, May 27 - Friday, May 31

School term and holiday dates

These are the dates for most state schools in Bristol, but academies and voluntary aided schools dates may be different so please check with them.

Other councils set their own dates, which could be different from ours.

The school year is 195 days altogether. Five of these days are used for staff training (inset days), so that means pupils go to school for 190 days a year. 

Each school chooses when their inset days take place.
