Submitted by numero on Sun, 07/23/2017 - 11:44 I have been given the task of teaching Public speaking. the students are Thai students Matayom 1 Grade 7. Their English ability is very low. I am finding this very difficult. All the speeches on the net are far to advanced for them. I have tried to get them to make their own speech with very little success. I believe these students are too young or lack the language to do this subject. Any help would be greatly received.

Submitted by Bruno Levy on Sat, 11/16/2013 - 15:28 Thank you for your amazing article. I myself will try to follow your words of advice. I shudder just to think of speaking in public. I have spoken in public may times though; the problem is that when I am nervous, I tend to speak much faster and this inevitably leads to bloopers. I believe the audience to whom you are going to speak makes the whole difference on how anxious and apprehensive you become. When I do a speech for my classmates at university, I do not feel that apprenhensive but I still feel some butterflies in my stomach. On the other hand, when I have to speak in front of lots of teachers of English, I freak out! From now on, I will take your techniques into account before speaking in front of a lot of people again! :)

Truly speaking, once I read the title, the idea of practising it with my students comes to my mind. Actually, this one of the best ways to help students get rid of their stage fright when they are about to face a large audience or just in front of their classmates. Looking forward to reading more on this topic. I have a question: Do you have more activities to help students develop their public speaking? Thank you.
Submitted by besherry on Tue, 07/06/2010 - 16:18 Public speaking is something that a lot of people have to work on, i've seen kids who were seemingly confident but when asked to speak infront of their peers the confidence just seems to evaporate. These tips would certainly be useful!

Can foreign language learners, having difficulty in understanding what do all these sentences (that they listen to, read and write from a material) mean, apply this methods of speaking marvelously in front of other people.
Submitted by zazank_tasik on Mon, 04/19/2010 - 16:59 Giving a speech in front of people makes me nervous. It's a good point to overcome such situations. I think the most important thing is practice, practice, and practice. The more we practice, the more confident can we get. Thanks for sharing the tips, I'll practice it with my students.
Submitted by speechwriting (not verified) on Wed, 08/15/2012 - 00:10 In reply to by zazank_tasik I understand you, I'm shaking like crazy when I'm in front of people, but with some techniques we can overcome these public speaking anxiety. But my biggest fear is probably the memory hole. Submitted by jessica77 on Thu, 04/15/2010 - 17:21 Excellent points. Additionally when it comes to public speaking, few sentences of light humour can be really helpful. Content/topic related humour can make a speech very interesting and recapture the interest of the audience.
Submitted by auto on Wed, 04/14/2010 - 19:01 Most people feel uncomfortable speaking to a public group. What will help to overcome this fear is to greet some of the audience members as they arrive. It’s easier to speak to a group of friends than to strangers. Also, keep in mind that audiences want you to be interesting, stimulating, informative and entertaining. They’re rooting for you. And the most important part... practice, practice and practice.
Submitted by JohnDillon on Wed, 04/14/2010 - 09:58 Definitely one of my weaker areas. I would relish to have more confidence when public speaking.
