Cách đáp lại lời đề nghị trong tiếng Anh

Mẫu câu để đưa ra và đáp lại lời yêu cầu, đề nghị (Requests)

Khi đưa ra một lời yêu cầu, đề nghị tức là chúng ta hỏi ai đó xem mình có thể làm một việc không hoặc nhờ ai đó làm cho ta.

1. Hỏi ai đó xem mình có thể làm việc gì không (Asking for something)

Có nhiều cách để diễn tả ý này. Ta thường hỏi xem mình có thể làm gì đó không theo cách lịch sự và gián tiếp. Khi đó, ta dùng can, could, would you mind if và may.

Ví dụ:

• A:CanI have the salt?
  B:Of course, here you are.

• A:CouldI ask you the time, please?
  B:No problem. Its quarter past four.

• A:Would you mind ifI borrowed your pen, please?
  B:Of course, here you are.

• A:MayI have the bill, please?(Maymang tính trang trọng hơn)
  B:Certainly, Madam.

Lưu ý: I need  tôi cần là một cách nói rất trực tiếp, thường sử dụng cho những lời yêu cầu/đề nghị cấp bách.

Ví dụ:

Ineeda doctor.

I needthe fire extinguisher. Fast!

I want cũng là một lời đề nghị rất trực tiếp. Nó có thể tạo ra cảm giác người yêu cầu hơi bất lịch sự. Ta thường không dùng mẫu câu này để đưa ra yêu cầu/đề nghị trừ khi muốn yêu cầu của mình thể hiện sự trực tiếp rõ rệt.

Ví dụ:

• I wantto speak to the manager right now. I am not leaving here until I get my money back.

2. Đề nghị ai đó làm gì (Asking someone to do something)

Tương tự khi hỏi xem mình có thể làm việc gì đó không, có nhiều cách lịch sự và gián tiếp để đề nghị ai đó làm gì. Ta thường dùng Could you + Verb,Would you + Verb,Would you mind + V-ing, Do you think you could + Verb...

Ta thường dùng please để làm cho lời đề nghị trở nên lịch sự hơn.

Ví dụ:

• Could youcall a taxi for me,please?
• Would youask Rose whether she has signed the card,please?
• Would you mindcollecting my suit from the dry cleaners,please?
• Do you think you couldcome in ten minutes early tomorrow, before the presentation?

Đôi khi, có thể dùng can you và will you để đưa ra lời đề nghị nhưng chúng mang tính chất kém trang trọng hơn.

Ví dụ:

• Mum,can youwake me at seven oclock?
• Will yousend me an email tomorrow just to remind me to book a hotel?

We need thường được dùng trong ngữ cảnh công việc mà người đề nghị là sếp/quản lý yêu cầu nhân viên thực hiện nhiệm vụ theo cách lịch sự.

Ví dụ:

• We needto email the contract to Peter immediately.
• We needsomeone to go to the meeting in Paris on Wednesday. Bill cant go.

Khi không chắc chắn liệu ai đó có thể làm việc mà chúng ta đề nghị không, đôi khi, ta dùng You wouldnt, would you? hoặc You couldnt, could you?

Ví dụ:

• Youwouldntdrop this into the post office for me,would you?
• Youcouldntstop at a bank machine,could you?

Trong các e-mail và thư từ mang tính trang trọng, ta có thể sử dụng các cách diễn đạt sau:

• I would be grateful if you could + Verb
• We would be most grateful if you could + Verb

Ví dụ:

• Iwould be grateful if you couldsend me more information about the course.
• Wewould be most grateful if you couldsend someone to meet us at the airport as we do not speak Japanese.

Can/Could I ask you to? Could I ask you totake me home? You couldnt could you? You couldn't help me sort out these overtime schedules, could you?
• I wonder if you could...?

  (possibly tăng thêm tính lịch sự cho lời đề nghị)

3. Chấp nhận vàTừ chối lời đề nghị
