What Marvel movies are releasing in 2024?

Phase 4 of the MCU is in full swing, but Marvel isn't stopping with the eight movies already confirmed to arrive by the end of 2023. Show On Friday (September 10), Disney announced an updated release schedule through to 2024 which included four mystery Marvel movies in 2024. This isn't unusual as studios regularly stake out future release dates for "untitled" movies, before later confirming which movie will open in said slot. We already got three untitled Marvel movies set for release in 2023 after the release of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 on May 5, 2023. Now with the addition of four untitled Marvel slots in 2024, that makes seven upcoming Marvel movies that are currently a mystery. The dates are: July 28, 2023, October 6, 2023, November 10, 2023, February 16, 2024, May 3, 2024, July 26, 2024, November 8, 2024. Just because there's a release date slot though, it doesn't guarantee that an MCU movie will be released then. As it is, there's two Marvel movies set to come out in 2023 with only one month between them – October 6 and November 10 – which seems unlikely to happen. However, four movies a year seems to be the Marvel standard now, so we imagine a lot of those dates will stick. What could those mystery movies be though? Let's speculate. Deadpool 3 20th Century Fox/Digitalspy/STSony Pictures One long-anticipated movie that is sure to arrive by the end of 2024 is Deadpool 3, marking the debut of Ryan Reynolds in the MCU. The threequel has writers on board – Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin – and Reynolds is 70% sure that the movie will finally start filming by the end of 2022, with Marvel boss Kevin Feige confirming that they have a release window in mind. "The script is in the works and Ryan is working very hard on it with our writers as we speak," Feige explained in August 2021. Deadpool 2 shot between July-October 2017 ahead of the movie's release in May 2018, so if the threequel does start filming by the end of next year, that all-but guarantees a 2024 release. Although we'd be happy to see it earlier as we've waited long enough. Fantastic Four Marvel Studios Back in May, Marvel released a sizzle reel for upcoming movies and it largely contained movies we knew were coming, before ending with a teaser logo for Fantastic Four which seems to confirm that it's going to be a late 2023 or 2024 release. The MCU reboot was confirmed by Feige way back at Comic-Con in July 2019 and in December 2020, it was announced that Jon Watts – he of Spider-Man: Homecoming and Far From Home fame – would be directing the new take on the superhero team. Right now, we don't have any confirmed casting for the movie or even know who's writing Fantastic Four, but since it's been in development since July 2019, there must have been behind-the-scenes moves for both things. One thing's for sure, it (probably) won't feature Emily Blunt and John Krasinski as Susan Storm and Reed Richards, respectively, no matter how much the fans might want it. Blade Marvel Studios Another reboot that was announced at Comic-Con 2019 was Blade with Mahershala Ali confirmed in the lead role. We had to wait until February 2021 to get an update as Watchmen's Stacy Osei-Kuffour came on board as writer, with Bassam Tariq being confirmed as the director in September 2021. All signs certainly point to Blade being one of those 2024 movies, if not earlier. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Marvel pushed a potential start date for filming from September 2021 to July 2022. If that date does stick, then we could well see Blade in the October 6, 2023 date which would well work if it's a darker tone fitting for Halloween. Captain America 4 Marvel Studios Following the events of The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, there's a new Captain America in the MCU and Anthony Mackie is getting his own movie to boot. It was confirmed in April 2021 that Malcolm Spellman and Dalan Musson – who both worked on the Disney+ series – would co-write the script for a fourth Captain America movie. We assumed Mackie would be back, and that was finally confirmed in August 2021. We don't yet know if Sebastian Stan will be back as Bucky Barnes or who will direct the new movie, so it feels as though this one is earlier in the development stage than the other projects we've mentioned. It could easily hit one of those 2024 release dates though, especially as we imagine Marvel wouldn't want to leave too long between The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and the new movie. X-Men 20th Century Studios This is a bit more of a long shot from us, but at Comic-Con 2019, Feige did say that Marvel was also in development on a movie about "mutants". While some fans instantly took that as another X-Men movie, he clarified to IGN that the reason he never namechecked X-Men was because "mutants and X-Men are interchangeable… Whatever we do will be quite different than what’s been done before." We've heard absolutely nothing about this movie since so we can't even say what stage of development it is at. If Deadpool 3 is released, that could prove to be the gateway for the mutants movie to arrive though. Shang-Chi 2 Marvel StudiosDisney We'll wrap this up with another gamble, yet it's one we feel is almost certain to happen soon in the MCU, whether it's by the end of 2024 or not. Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been a huge hit at the box office in its opening two weeks, and it absolutely sets up the prospect of a sequel outing for Simu Liu's new Avenger. It wouldn't be out of the realm of possibility for Shang-Chi 2 to arrive around three years after the first movie. There were two years between the first two Iron Man and Thor movies and three years between the first two Captain America movies. The question is whether the credits scene for Shang-Chi points to his next appearance being in a sequel or in some form of team-up movie to wrap up Phase 4.
