Sony QD-OLED 2023

Although OLED is great in terms of viewing angles, defeating usual LCDs and QLED displays, QD-OLEDs take that a notch up. Even at off-axis angles, QD-OLED displays offer more accurate colors than OLEDs. Since QD-OLED TVs have higher efficiency in terms of brightness, they are less susceptible to pixel burning.

Quantum Dot OLED has really hit the ground running. Both of the first QD-OLED TVs we've seen have shown real progress when it comes to brightness, contrast and, especially, colour range. And they've done so at much more aggressive price points than we might have expected.

Just like QLED TVs, QD-OLED sets start with a blue light source and use quantum-dot material to produce red and green light. But because they are OLEDs, the light source in this case is each individual pixel.

Editor's Note (October 26, 2022): Because of it's absolutely stunning picture, the Sony A95K is our pick as Best TV Upgrade. There are, of course, some nits to pick—it might be the best TV I've ever seen, but it's also the most expensive flagship this year.
